Lewis Baach Kaufmann Middlemiss PLLC is a boutique international law firm with offices in New York City, Washington, D.C., and the United Arab Emirates. The firm focuses on complex cross-border litigation, international arbitration, regulatory compliance, white-collar defense, and internal and government investigations.
We are currently seeking a full-time litigation paralegal to join our team in either our New York City or Washington, D.C. office. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute meaningfully to a dynamic and growing international practice within a collegial and collaborative work environment.
The ideal candidate will be highly organized, detail-oriented, and proactive, with significant experience supporting litigation teams through all phases of case management. This role includes a broad range of substantive, case-related responsibilities, such as:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Drafts standard procedural pleadings, including answers, proposed orders, and pro hac vice motions.
- Prepares initial drafts and responses to discovery requests, including interrogatories, requests for production, and requests for admissions.
- Coordinates and prepares service of subpoenas; identifies and verifies registered agents to ensure proper service.
- Assists with deposition preparation by assembling notebooks, scheduling attorneys, expert witnesses, and parties; prepares and serves notices; coordinates with court reporters and videographers.
- Compiles and organizes witness files; ensures all relevant materials are gathered and provided to witnesses for review in advance of depositions.
- Indexes, summarizes, and organizes deposition transcripts.
- Files pleadings with federal and state courts, both electronically and in paper format; coordinates service copies.
- Prepares and transmits legal correspondence, filings, and client communications; follows up to confirm receipt and timely delivery.
- Conducts document review; prepares document productions and maintains detailed privilege logs.
- Organizes and manages client files within the firm’s document management system in accordance with firm protocols.
- Utilizes eDiscovery tools to manage and analyze relevant case documents.
- Supports trial preparation, including maintaining case calendars, organizing case files, and updating trial notebooks.
- Applies knowledge of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure; efficiently locates and interprets local court rules and judges’ standing orders.
- Performs cite-checking and legal formatting using The Bluebook; conducts legal research via Westlaw.
- Provides general litigation support to attorneys; assists with additional tasks as needed to support firm and client needs.
- Maintains confidentiality and handles sensitive information with professionalism and discretion.

- Ability to work independently and as part of a team; self-motivated and proactive.
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
- Working knowledge of electronic court filing (e-filing) procedures and platforms.
- Willingness to ask questions, learn new skills, and adapt to evolving tasks and technologies.
- Exercises sound judgment, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree required; paralegal certificate from an ABA-accredited program preferred.
- Minimum of five (5) years of litigation paralegal experience in a law firm or legal department.
- Position is primarily in-office, with some flexibility for remote work.
- Flexibility to work overtime, as needed.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines with shifting priorities.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate professionally with individuals at all levels, including firm personnel and external vendors.
Compensation and Benefits
Lewis Baach Kaufmann Middlemiss PLLC offers a competitive total compensation package, which includes performance-based bonuses and merit-based salary increases. All full-time employees are eligible to participate in the firm’s comprehensive benefits program. Salary Range and Background Check Notice
Anticipated Salary Range: $100,000 – $120,000 (annualized, full-time)
The final salary offer will be determined based on several factors, including but not limited to relevant experience, internal equity, market data, job location, and other job-related considerations permitted by law.
