The Department of Clinical Outcomes Research at Legacy Health is hiring a researcher with experience and interest in health economics or quantitative program evaluation.

The successful candidate will work with Dr. Megan Cahn, Associate Scientist, Population Health, on research and program evaluation projects related to the health and well-being of Legacy's patients and employees. Dr. Cahn's areas of research focus include health equity, sexual and reproductive health, mental health, and the integration of social care into the healthcare environment.

In this role, you will: conduct health economics and outcomes research studies to examine the distribution and prevalence of health and social conditions, clinical and program outcomes, and utilization of healthcare services. You will work with data from our health system's electronic medical records and health insurance claims, as well as program and survey data.

We are looking for candidates who have expertise in health services research and analysis and strong quantitative and methods skills. We are particularly interested in candidates who have experience selecting and implementing analytic techniques to use with cost and utilization data, non-normally distributed data, correlated data, time series data, and pre-post analysis.

Responsibilities:

  • The Senior Data Analyst- Research is a key driver in the on-going development and implementation of health research and program evaluation at Legacy Health.
  • The person in this role is responsible for extracting, cleaning, managing, and analyzing patient and employee data and presenting data using a variety of engaging visualizations for diverse internal and external facing audiences.
  • This role will respond to requests for complex data extraction and analytics, produce and interpret data summaries, reports, and dashboards. Interfaces with internal and external customers. Will participate on and lead cross-functional project teams. Supports various research projects and manuscript preparation.
  • Maintains subject matter expertise in select aspects of health data and participates in special projects as needed. 

Legacy Health requires employees to live in either Oregon or Washington. This position will be remote with the expectation that the candidate will come to Portland, OR for orientation and quarterly in-person meetings.



Requirements

Education:

Master's degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, Mathematics, Epidemiology, Computer Science, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Economics, or a related program and minimum of three years of experience to include quantitative data analysis and use of statistical software (e.g., Stata, R).

Or

Doctoral degree or ABD in Statistics, Biostatistics, Mathematics, Epidemiology, Computer Science, Healthcare Administration, Public Health, Economics, or a related program.

Experience:

  • Experience extracting, cleaning, analyzing, and applying data to answer research questions.
  • Experience working in health services research, health care policy research, or health care data analytics.
  • Experience selecting and implementing data collection processes and analytic techniques (e.g., difference-in-differences estimation, interrupted time series models, working with correlated data, working with cost and utilization data with non-normal distributions, etc.) for program and policy evaluation studies.
  • Experience analyzing data using statistical software (e.g., Stata and/or R).
  • Ability to work independently and in a team.
  • Preferred experience with relational databases.
  • Preferred experience using SQL programming.
  • Preferred experience with report automation and business intelligence tools such as Microsoft PowerBI and Tableau.

Skills:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of health analytics.
  • Project management and ability to execute highly complex or specialized projects.
  • Strong communication skills, including technical and non-technical report writing, and oral presentation to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage large disparate data sets and use quantitative analytic techniques.
